With the release of Firmware 2.41, Sony has finally fixed glitches that some PS3 users encountered during the Firmware 2.40 software update. "While adding additional support for 50 more friends to interact with on PSN, we thought, what about about Man’s Best Friend? My circus show poodle, sparkles, is my friend. Why couldn’t we allow pets onto PSN, ya know? What about my REAL best friend? The one that I feed, take for walks and play with everyday? Well, we’re changing all of that. From now on, you’ll have an additional 50 slots to add pets!"

Possibly Real: PS3 Firmware 2.4 Includes In-Game XMB & Trophy support

Gaming news site videogaming247 has stated that the elusive in-game XMB and trophy support will be released in the upcoming firmware update for the PlayStation 3. The in-game XMB will allow players to access their friends list without quitting games. videogaming247 has gone further to state that the in-game XMB will allow players to play their own music in-game!

UPDATE:
videogaming 247 has claimed that Sony is currently checking the entire PlayStation 3 library for in-game XMB and trophy support compatibility. The site has highly emphasized that not all PS3 games will feature in-game XMB and Trophies (the PS3's version of Achievements).
"...user-music and Trophies functionality is only being included as an option for Sony developers from this point on."
In other words, if the developers don't use the tools, the game won't have it. Hopefully, Kojima and Konami used the tools for Metal Gear Solid 4...
