HD-DVD IS OFFICIALLY DEAD; BLU-RAY WINS!

In an immediate press release yesterday, Toshiba officially announced the discontinuation of development, manufacturing, and marketing of all HD-DVD players and recorders - ultimately ending the high-def format war. Don't worry HD-DVD owners, Toshiba also stated they will continue "to provide full product support and after-sales service for all owners of Toshiba HD DVD products."

After Netflix's and Wal-Mart's decision to drop the HD-DVD format and former HD-DVD-exclusive film studios like Paramount and Universal jumping on the Blu-ray bandwagon, the death of HD-DVD was inevitable. Sony should be celebrating. Many analysts predict a 10% surge in PS3 sales now that Blu-ray is the only high-definition format in the market.
